Reporting to Test

  • Computer-Based Testing (CBT)
  • Online Proctoring (OP)

Computer-Based Testing

Your testing confirmation information, sent to you after you schedule your test, lists your test selection, test date, testing time, and test center. Please report to the test center 15 minutes before your scheduled testing time. On the day of the test, you may wish to dress comfortably in layers. This will allow you to adjust for the temperature at the test center, which may vary and may not be under the control of the test administrators. Please wear soft-soled shoes to help maintain a quiet testing environment.

Required identification. You must bring proper identification with you to the test site. Your identification must be a current, government-issued identification printed in English, in the name in which you registered, bearing your photograph and signature. Copies will not be accepted.

Acceptable forms of government-issued identification include photo-bearing driver's licenses and passports.

Online Proctoring

Your testing confirmation information, sent to you after you schedule your test, lists your test selection, test date, and testing time. Sign in to your account and start your test within the testing window precisely 30 minutes before and up to 15 minutes after the specific appointment time.

Make Sure You Have the Right Equipment

You provide your own equipment for testing. You must have access to the following:

  • Required—a desktop or a laptop; tablets and touch screens cannot be used for your test
  • Required—a single monitor; extra monitors are not allowed; you need to remove them from the testing room, if possible, or unplug them
  • Required if using an external monitor with a laptop—you must have an external mouse, keyboard, and webcam and the lid of your laptop must be closed
  • Recommended—a personal computer rather than a work computer, which may have additional security that can interfere with your testing session

Take the system test before you register link opens in a new window. This will determine if your equipment is eligible for online proctoring.

Prepare Your Testing Environment

For best results, prepare your testing environment before your appointment. Every online-proctored testing environment must meet these criteria:

  • Quiet—background noise may distract proctors monitoring your test session and could interfere with your session
  • No interruptions—inform any other members of your household that you are taking a test and cannot be interrupted during your entire appointment time
  • Well lit—proctors must be able to see you and your testing space well; do not sit in front of a window or other strong light—if you are backlit, you are not clearly visible (draw shades or curtains, turn off lights behind you)
  • Others cannot see your test—no one else must be able to view your computer or monitor
  • Nothing in arm's reach that is not specifically allowed
    • ONLY equipment or materials that have been specifically approved for use during an online-proctored test will be allowed; these must be on the desk during check-in
Note: there is a difference between what is allowed at a testing center and what is allowed in an online-proctored testing session
    • If you plan to use your mobile phone for check-in, be sure to place it out of arm's reach after you finish using it; otherwise, place it out of arm's reach in one of your environment photos
  • No one else in the room—ideally, you should prevent others from entering; if someone does inadvertently enter, say "Please leave; I'm testing." No other communication is allowed.

Required Identification

You must present proper identification at the beginning of the test session. Your identification must be a current, government-issued identification printed in English, in the name in which you registered, bearing your photograph and signature. Copies will not be accepted.

Acceptable forms of government-issued identification include photo-bearing driver's licenses and passports. The Department of Motor Vehicles provides acceptable photo-bearing identification cards for individuals who do not have a driver's license.

Review the complete Identification Policy.

Who Receives Your Test Scores

Your test scores are reported to you and to any institution that you indicated as a score recipient when you registered. Your scores are also reported directly to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Office of Certification, and are automatically added to your certification application file. Your score report is for your records only; do not submit it with your application for certification.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy

Withdrawal/Refund Policy

If after registering for a test you wish to withdraw your registration, you may do so according to the following procedure:

If you have not yet scheduled your test: Submit a withdrawal request through your account.

If you have already scheduled your test:

  1. First, cancel your test appointment at least 24 hours before your scheduled testing time. To cancel your appointment, log in to your account, click "Reschedule," and follow the instructions provided.
  2. After cancelling your test appointment, submit a withdrawal request through your account.

If you withdraw your registration before you have scheduled your test appointment or if you cancel your test appointment at least 24 hours before your scheduled testing time and then withdraw your registration, you will receive a full refund of your test fee. In most cases, your refund will be issued by Evaluation Systems within one week of your request; however, some requests may take additional time to resolve.

If you selected multiple subtests when you registered and wish to withdraw from any of the subtests selected, you must withdraw your entire registration and submit a new registration with a new test selection. Once one subtest associated with a registration has been attempted, you may not withdraw any of the other subtests within the same registration.

If you are absent from the test, you will not receive a refund or credit of any kind.

Your registration is valid for one year from the date of issue. If you do not schedule a test appointment and take your test within one year, or withdraw your registration within one year, your registration will expire and you will receive no refund or credit of any kind.

Payment Policy

Duration of Payment Validity

After payment, your registration will be valid for one year. If you do not take the test or withdraw your registration within that period, your registration will expire and you will receive no refund or credit of any kind.

Payment Processing

If you register to take the same test on multiple test dates and pass the test on the first test date, you will not be issued a refund for your additional registrations on the basis of your passing performance.

If you have any outstanding balance owed by you to Evaluation Systems after a test appointment for which you were registered, all of your scores for that test date may be permanently voided and therefore not reported to you; to the PESB; to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Office of Certification; or to any institutions.

The following policies apply to you when you have an outstanding balance with Evaluation Systems:

  • You will be assessed a $20 fee to cover the processing required to clear your account.
  • You will not be allowed to register for future test appointments until your balance, which includes the additional fee, is paid in full.
  • Any credits or refunds for which you may be eligible will be applied first to your outstanding debt, with any excess to be returned to you.

If a credit card charge for an Evaluation Systems service for you is disputed:

  • You may not be allowed to make any future payments by credit card.
  • You must make your payment to clear your account by cashier's check or money order only.
  • If you attempt to pay for any further services by cashier's check or money order before clearing your account, any payments received will be applied first to your outstanding debt, with any excess applied to the requested services.

Additionally, if a personal check submitted by you is returned by the bank:

  • You will not be allowed to make any future payments by personal check.
  • You must make your payment to clear your account by cashier's check or money order only, unless you are making a subsequent credit card payment for additional services, in which case your credit card will be billed for both the outstanding balance and the additional requested services.
  • If you attempt to pay for any further services by credit card before clearing your account, your credit card will be billed for the amount of all services you have requested, as well as the outstanding balance owed. You agree to pay for all such services and outstanding balances in the event your credit card company does not.
  • If you attempt to pay for any further services by cashier's check or money order before clearing your account, any payments received will be applied first to your outstanding debt, with any excess applied to the requested services.

  • State identification with photograph and signature (provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles for individuals who do not have a driver's license)

Please note the following:

  • Your middle initial in your account on this website must match the middle name or initial on your ID.
  • If you have a hyphenated last name, one of the following must be true of your name as it appears in your account on this website and on your ID:
    • either both instances must use the complete hyphenated name
    • or

If you have any questions about your identification, please contact Evaluation Systems before the day of the test.

As part of the identity verification process, you must provide photographs of (1) your ID, (2) your testing environment, and (3) your face (a headshot). These will be used only for the purpose of identity verification and ensuring a secure testing environment. If you do not provide the required photographs, you will not be allowed to test and you will not receive a refund or credit of any kind.

Late Arrival Policy

It is essential that you report for your test appointment on time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late to a test appointment, you may not be admitted. Please note that children will not be allowed in the testing center or into the secure testing room.

Online Proctoring

Nursing mothers who need to make arrangements for using specialized equipment should follow the Alternative Testing Arrangements process to ensure prior approval. Please note that children will not be allowed in the testing room.

The Test Session

  • Computer-Based Testing (CBT)
  • Online Proctoring (OP)

Computer-Based Testing

The test session is designed to allow sufficient time for sign-in, review of the Test Center Rules PDF Document, and communication of directions before testing begins and for completion of the test by examinees. Some examinees may finish testing well before the scheduled ending time of the test session. However, you should be prepared to use the entire test session. You will be allowed no more than the allotted time to complete the test.

Before testing, you will be presented with a nondisclosure agreement, which will ask you to indicate your agreement to the conditions set forth on this website and the rules communicated to you orally or in writing at the test administration. You will have five minutes to review and accept the terms of this agreement. If you do not accept the terms of the agreement within five minutes, you will not be permitted to test and you will receive no refund or credit of any kind.

You will be monitored at all times by video and audio recording. If you leave the testing room at any time during the test (e.g., to take a restroom break), your identification will be checked and/or your palm scan will be taken when you leave and when you re-enter the testing room.

During testing, you may take restroom breaks. Any time that you take for restroom breaks is considered part of the available testing time. You may not leave the testing facility or room in which you have been seated for any purpose (other than to use the restroom, as permitted) until you have been officially dismissed by a test administrator. During the test administration, you may not communicate with other examinees or any unauthorized persons in any way, either in person or by using any communication device.

The test center at which you take your test(s) may administer a variety of tests, including those for other professional licenses. Please be aware that other individuals at the test center may be taking tests that have rules, policies, and other terms and conditions that may be different from those that apply to the test that you will be taking.

Prohibited Materials

The following materials are prohibited at the test site:

  • Smoking and the use of all tobacco products
  • Visitors, including relatives, children, and friends

  • Calculators and calculator manuals (on-screen calculators are automatically provided for tests that allow them)
  • Handwritten or printed materials, such as dictionaries, notebooks, scratch paper, textbooks, etc.
  • Packages and bags of any kind, such as backpacks, briefcases, etc.

  • Unauthorized medical devices, defined as any device not noted on Pearson VUE's Approved Comfort Aids list opens in a new window, unless prior approval has been obtained (refer to Requesting Alternative Testing Arrangements for more information)

Violation of test site rules, including the possession or use of prohibited materials during a test administration, may result in the voiding of your scores.

Online Proctoring

The test session is designed to allow sufficient time for sign-in, identification confirmation, and communication of directions before testing begins and for completion of the test by examinees. Some examinees may finish testing well before the scheduled ending time of the test session. However, you should be prepared to use the entire test session. You will be allowed no more than the allotted time to complete the test.

For an online-proctored test, the check-in process includes:

  • Taking photos of (1) your government-issued ID, (2) your testing environment, and (3) your face (a headshot)
  • Having your photos reviewed before your test is queued up. Most candidates will start their test within 15 minutes of their appointment time.
    • If your pictures don't pass review, you'll be joined by a greeter as soon as possible to help you troubleshoot.

Before testing, you will be presented with a nondisclosure agreement, which will ask you to indicate your agreement to the conditions set forth on this website and the rules communicated to you orally and/or in writing at the test administration. You will have five minutes to review and accept the terms of this agreement. If you do not accept the terms of the agreement within five minutes, you will not be permitted to test and you will receive no refund or credit of any kind.

You will be monitored by a VUE-certified proctor via webcam and microphone throughout your test to ensure the integrity and security of your test experience.

Breaks. Unscheduled breaks during testing are not allowed. See the test information page for information about any breaks that are included during the overall appointment time.

What Could Cause Your Test to be Stopped and/or Revoked?

We take steps to ensure that every testing experience is a good one, but there are two main reasons your test could be stopped.

  • Your test cannot be launched—if technical problems with your computer or internet connection prevent the test from launching correctly.
  • Your test could be revoked if the proctor sees any irregularities.
    • You must stay within webcam view.
    • You cannot get up and walk around.
    • No one can enter your testing environment.
    • You cannot leave your testing environment.
    • You must be clothed (no hats or hoodies).
    • A beverage in any container is allowed, but no food or smoking.

Additionally, you could receive a warning for the following activities, which could lead to your testing session being revoked:

  • Moving your webcam—you cannot move your webcam once your testing session has started.
  • Mumbling or speaking out loud will lead to a warning.

Dismissal from the Test

  • Computer-Based Testing (CBT)
  • Online Proctoring (OP)

Computer-Based Testing

When you have completed testing or when the test session ends, whichever occurs first, you will be dismissed. Once you have been officially dismissed, you must leave the testing facility.

Online Proctoring

When you have completed testing or when the test session ends, whichever occurs first, you will be dismissed from the test session. Once you have been officially dismissed from the test session, your session is over and you will be logged out of the system.
