Washington State Teacher Endorsement Competencies (TECs)
Washington State has established teacher endorsement competencies—statements of knowledge and skills that teachers are expected to master—in each endorsement area recognized by the state. These competencies are used by colleges and universities to guide their preparation programs and also provide the basis for the content testing (WEST–E) required for anyone seeking endorsement(s). To prepare to take the WEST–E, begin by reviewing the TECs for the endorsement(s) you are seeking, which can be viewed on the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction Web site:
