WEST PASSING REQUIREMENTS

An individual's performance on a WEST test is evaluated against an established standard. The passing score for each test and subtest was established by the PESB and was based on the professional judgments and recommendations of Washington educators.

To report test scores in a consistent way for all test fields and all test administrations, the scores for all tests and subtests are converted to a common scale. Test results are calculated as scaled scores in a range from 100 to 300, with a score of 240 representing the minimum passing score. If your total test scaled score is 240 or more, you have passed the test or subtest. If your total test scaled score falls below 240, you have not passed the test or subtest.

Your total test score is based on your performance on all sections of the test or subtest. Scores on subsections of a test taken at one administration cannot be combined with scores on subsections of the same test taken at another administration to achieve a total test passing score.

To pass the WEST–B, the Elementary Education test, or the Middle Level Humanities test, you must pass each of the test's subtests.

For the WEST–B Writing subtest and the Designated World Languages: Latin test, your score on the multiple-choice section and your score on the constructed-response assignment section are combined to obtain your total test score, and performance on one section can compensate for performance on the other section.

Retaking the WEST

Candidates who wish to retake a WEST test or subtest that they have not passed may do so at any regularly scheduled administration by submitting a new registration and payment.
