ABOUT THE WEST

THE NEW WEST–E

The PESB has initiated redevelopment of the Washington Educator Skills Tests—Endorsements (WEST–E) that are required for P–12 educator endorsement. New WEST–E tests have been or will be developed for the 34 endorsement areas, and the new tests will be fully aligned with state standards, including the teacher endorsement competencies and the Essential Academic Learning Requirements.

Preparation materials for currently available tests can be found on the WEST Web site by selecting "What's on the Tests?"

New tests for 2008–2009. Beginning with the September 13, 2008, test administration, new WEST–E tests will be offered for the following 24 endorsement areas:

  • Bilingual Education
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Dance
  • Deaf Education
  • Earth and Space Science
  • Elementary Education
  • English Language Arts
  • English Language Learners
  • Health/Fitness
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Middle Level Humanities
  • Middle Level Mathematics
  • Middle Level Science
  • Music: Choral
  • Music: General
  • Music: Instrumental
  • Physics
  • Reading
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Theatre Arts
  • Visual Arts

Please note that score reports for these WEST–E tests may be delayed due to standard-setting activities and determination of passing scores by the PESB. See “Test Selection” for additional information related to registering for these tests.

New tests for 2009–2010. New WEST–E tests for the following 10 endorsement areas will be offered beginning in fall 2009:
