PREPARING FOR THE TESTS
Study materials for the WEST are provided to assist examinees with their test preparation. They can be found on the WEST Web site by selecting "What's on the Tests?"
Resources for the WEST–B include:
- The WEST–B test objectives define the Reading, Math, and Writing content of the test. The test objectives are a component of the test framework and are organized by content domains, groupings of test objectives that reflect the main areas of subject-matter knowledge on the test. Each test objective includes descriptive statements that provide further details about the nature and range of content covered by the objectives.
- The WEST–B Study Guide describes each WEST–B subtest and provides strategies and suggestions on how to prepare for the test. The study guide provides sample test questions organized by subtest area and test objective.
- The Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) are reflective of the knowledge and skills assessed by the WEST–B. The EALRs are also referred to as academic learning standards and are organized by content area and grade level.
Resources for the WEST–E include:
- WEST–E Test-Taking Strategies provides strategies and suggestions on how to prepare for the tests, as well as general information about how to use the test summary and framework to prepare for the tests.
- The test summary describes general testing information for each endorsement area, such as the test format, number of questions, and test session length.
- The test framework for each endorsement area is organized by content domains, groupings of test objectives that reflect the main areas of subject-matter knowledge on the test. Each objective contains descriptive statements that provide further details about the nature and range of content covered by the objectives.
- Sample test questions for each endorsement area are designed to provide an introduction to the nature of the questions included on the test. These samples represent the various types of questions examinees can expect to see on the actual test.
- The Washington State Teacher Endorsement Competencies are statements of knowledge and skills that teachers are expected to master in each endorsement area recognized by the state. These competencies provide the basis for content testing for anyone seeking an endorsement.
